Anyone have sleep apnea? How loud is the machine they give you that hooks up to the mask?

I have just been diagnosed with it and will be getting my cpap today, just wondering if the cpap is loud and will keep my wife awake

Oh My your wife is going to thank them for the machine. Trust me on that one. My husband uses it and its great. It takes abit of time for you to get used to it, but now my husband cannot sleep without it. You will sleep better. You may get abit of gas in your stomach for awhile do not be alarmed. It is very quiet. My husband just got the higher priced one and its great. You know how dangerous to your health it is without one. So you will be fine. Your wife will finally get to sleep. Its so quiet sometimes i have to reach in the middle of the night to feel if my husband has it on, I dont like him not wearing it. So look forward to a good thing all around.
my son has been using a cpap machine/mask for 4 years now,and no,the noise won’t keep her awake unless you have holes in the tube,then she will hear air hissing through it,or unless a part of your mask is’nt on right,you have nothing to worry about,they are fairly quiet.
It sounds like a fan. Its quite soothing.
It depends on how high the pressure is. My guy has had a cpap for 20 years. It was a godsend at first. Then he gained weight and the pressure was increased. Now it sounds like a generator. Its so loud I had him put it on the floor. It used to sound like a whisper. Now, he sleeps fine but I am getting no sleep because of the sudden bursts or air shooting at me when he turns over and, if the mask is just a little off, it whistles and/ or sounds like a raging river. Its great for him but I’,m thinking about sleeping in another room. At least the snooring noise could be blocked with ear plugs. The wind and pressure hassles can’t be masked.
Hey Armyvet…your wife will get used to the noise quicker than she did the loud snoring that probably got you diagnosed. This has been one of the great lifesavers in the past few years. I occasionally work for a pulmonolagist who is director of several sleep labs in this area. He has prescribed tons of c-pap machines to men and women.
