Can sleep apnea be caused by stress? I am 23 years old and average weight so why is this happening to me..help
I have been really stressed out lately so I am wondering if that is why I am having sleep apnea symptoms. I always heard it was in older people who were over weight and usually men but that is not me at all. Can anyone help me out and explain why this could be happening to me?
I haven’t seen a doctor yet I just stop breathing in my sleep and wake up gasping for air. I do have chronic tonsillitis could that be blocking the air way if I’m breathing through my mouth at night

You don’t always have to be a man or overweight. See your doctor.
Sleep apnea is normally seen in larger people because they have more flesh to occlude the airway when sleeping. It is not limited to only heavy people though… I know a number of average to skinny people that suffer from sleep apnea.. it all depends on the build of your airway. Some people have an airway that is easily blocked off which is what normally causes sleep apnea. See your doctor.. he will be able to tell if you have a chronic sleep apnea problem or if it is just an acute thing. If it chronic.. have no fear.. it is still possible to live a perfectly normal life with sleep apnea. The normal treatment is what is known as CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure)…. it basically pressurizes air going to your lungs to hold your airway open when you sleep… it sounds wierd and looks a little strange but it works wonders!!
the doctor that gave you this diagnosised you with sleep apnea can explain this to you
sleep apnea can happen to anybody. the problem is that many people breathe through their mouth when sleeping and in your case, the inflamed tonsils are blocking the air.
There can be other factors and causes. don’t take it personal.
find a pulmonologist (lung doctor) and get checked out, plus a sleep study. with CPAP, things will get vastly better. Sleep apnea also drastically affects the heart, brain function, overall stamina. this is something you can die from, as well as something that impairs your driving and work/study ethic.
