What is a pat Diagnosis?
No, sleep apnea is a serious medical condition. What happens is after you fall asleep sometimes you stop breathing. The not breathing is what wakes you up. The scary part is if you don’t wake up you’ll die.
um no…your airway becomes constricted for some reason while you are sleeping and you wake up because you can’t breathe. I have heard of some thin people with sleep apnea, but most people that I know that have it…have a weight problem that compounds or is the cause of the apnea.
Don’t think so We have 2 friends with sleepapnea and it can be very serious…you should have a sleep study done because there are different levels of it. Once you get treatment for it, you will be amazed how little sleep you actually got!
No, but is a major cause. What should happen next is you should get an appointment with a pulmonologist to be scheduled for a sleep study to find out one way or another. It could be something else but you will never know for sure without the study. If you are a healthy weight does not mean you couldn’t have sleep apnea. Wouldn’t it be better to get the study done or would you rather buy sleeping pills with terrible side effects for years and still have no relief?
I have had the same problem. After 2 sleep studies it was determined that I had sleep apnea. The not being able to fall asleep has nothing to do with that however as that part of it is emotional. This thursday I will be getting a device that I will wear when I go to bed that gives a continous flow of air that stops the affects of apnea.
Without a sleep study, he cannot properly diagnose you. Many people snore but not all have sleep apnea. Your sleep patterns could possibly leave you in REM sleep too long and wake you with a jolt. Tell him you want a sleep study.
go to a university sleep clinic and have them test you…
no its not a pat answer . really the only way i know of to determine if you have that problem would be to spend at least one night in the sleep clinic. there is very effective treatment for this if you have it .
Definitely not.
You will need a sleep study to find out and if your doctor thinks you have sleep apnea, he should have no problem getting authorization for the test. It’s a non intrusive and painless test that takes place over one night usually and it’s called a split study. If you have sleep apnea, the tech will wake you half way through the night and put a Positive Airway Pressure device mask on you and from a control room, adjust the pressure until the apneas and most hypopneas cease. If you have OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea), you will be amazed at how much more refreshed and energized you feel even from that half night on the device. If you then need a CPAP, BiPAP or AutoPAP, embrace it and you will come to love it. It can take some time to get used to but it’s worth it. Complications of OSA include Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure, Stroke and more. Why would you even want to mess with these things?
