Yes.
Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder characterized by pauses in breathing during sleep.
The most common treatment and arguably the most consistently effective treatment for sleep apnea is the use of a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device, which ‘splints’ the patient’s airway open during sleep by means of a flow of pressurized air into the throat. However the CPAP machine only assists inhaling whereas a BiPAP machine assists with both inhaling and exhaling, and is used in more severe cases.
For patients who do not tolerate or fail non-surgical measures, surgical treatment to anatomically alter the airway is available
I also have sleep apnea. I have a mask that I have to wear at night be
cause people with this disease stop breathing during the night. The mask is connected to a machine that blows air out very fast to make the person breathe easier, and keep breathing. I have not been told that there is a cure or
any surgery that could remedy this . You could look it up online and learn a lot about it and if there could be any cure. good luck to you.
not ussaly i have it sevre…loose weight.or restructure of airways…i take it its osa…or Central or mixed
We have all these modern technology and we can’t definitively treat a sleeping disorder, like sleep apnea.
There is no cure for sleep apnea, for now. But (there is always “but”) a patient with apnea disorder may feel cured if he follows an effective treatment. Remember, I said “treatment” and not “healing”.
There are many effective treatments, but sleep apnea will return if the treatment is stopped.
Now, do you understand why patients with sleep apnea are “temporary disqualified” if they try to join the army? Because if you don’t have a treatment, you will be drowsy all the time and you need to be very active to have success in the army.
Your first step to join the army is to speak with your doctor or with a sleep specialist, to find the best treatment for you.
Good luck, soldier:)
Well, I guess there is! You will first need to consult your physician to know what exactly has caused you sleep apnea. If it is you being overweight, then losing weight can reduce your apnea, and with time your body can get conditioned and you can eventually stop having sleep apnea. In the mean time, you will be provided with a CPAP device or probably a dentistry device which will keep your lower jaw forward to avoid apnea attacks.
If your sleep apnea is due to some structural defects in your respiratory tract or throat, you will need to have some sort of surgical operation to get relief from that defect or some other method that your physician can better tell you after accessing your condition.
Regarding the army joining, you should consult the army physicians in order to get more information about your condition and to see to how much extent it is curable. Then you can decide if you will be a good fit in the army or not.
Good luck and don’t worry!
Hi Perez,
You can try the alternative route.
Natural and holistic approaches are also excellent treatment methods for providing relief of sleep apnea. More and more people are exploring natural remedies and declining the use of allopathic medicines. Treatments such as herbal and homeopathic remedies help to improve symptoms but also address the individual’s overall physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
Certain herbs such as Avena sativa, Scuttelaria laterifolia and Passiflora incarnata can safely be taken to treat chronic sleep problems and maintain healthy sleep patterns. In addition, a combination of herbs and sleep facilitating nutrients such as Hypericum perforatuma, Schizandra chinesis, Calcium lactate, Magnesium lactate and Vitamin B6 treats the underlying causes of sleep problems, balances serotonin levels naturally and induces a regular, satisfying sleep.
Good Luck!
I do believe that there is a cure and there are sleep apnea machines to enable you to sleep soundly at night.
