My wife has been diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. They’re talking about surgery and masks and all this…

Is there a natural/cheaper way to deal with this besides surgery? Some herbs or tea or something? Thank you.
So she can stop using the mask after surgery right?

Unfortunately no. Your wife is probably obese (and I mean no disrespect by that, its just my experience working in health care). Other than weight loss that is about it.
They will try a CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) Machine first. This blows air into the throat all night to keep the airway open.
If that doesnt work then they will do a UPP (Uvula PaltoPharyngotomy). This is where they go in and remove part of the tissue in the mouth to allow more oxygen to get into her lungs.
Unfortunetly, she prolly needs this done. I heard that you can stop breathing in your sleep with this disease..very dangerous. Sleep apnea is acually not common but not rare, I know 2 people that have this and are fine now after the surgery and everything, they have to sleep with a mask on their face with a tube everynight to help keep air going to their lungs even if they dont. My boss acually has one, she has had it for years..very common for her now, you learn to sleep with it and know how to sleep with it. May look a little funny but i would rather wear a mask then to die or get severe brain damage from lack of oxygen..wouldnt you? I wouldnt trust an herb or tea for this symptom. She will be okay…just be by her side and help her through it.
My husband has sleep apnia and lung problems and he sleeps with a CPAP and oxygen. He has had this condition for 12 years. Before he was diagnosed he use to gasp for breathe every night and it is a very serious condition,Since using the mask we both get a good nights’ sleep. He has got used to sleeping with this machine which has practically saved his life.
No tea or herbs is are going to cure sleep apnea. I have it myself.
As far as the masks go, there are bi-pap masks that do not cover your whole face.
Try this before they try any surgery. My sleep doc talked about the surgery to me, because sometimes your throat is too closed up to allow normal breathing during sleep.
They did say the recovery period is hard, but for some people totally necessary. If she doesn’t get treatment, she will not be getting enough oxygen when she sleeps; wake up with headaches, etc. Also, apnea can lead to heart disease, as can other sleep disorders.
Surgery to me is always a last resort. Has your wife tried the CPAP machine? I would think any doctor would try this first before suggesting surgery. I would read up on sleep apnea and get to know all the fact. I would also get a second opinion before going under the knife.
I have sleep apnea,,,with oxygen.Used to fight to breath, now better..
