Sinus trouble during sleep, need help?
My sinuses sort of swell up, or stuff up during sleep, causing apnea and mouth breathing. I can’t remember when the last decent night sleep took place. It’s killing me, literally. I’ve heard of flonaise, etc, but what works best for opening the sinuses up? Should I try claritin? what are the long term side affects of flonaise? Usually, depending on what side I’m on, one sinus completely closes off, the other only partially opened. I do use nasal strips and they help, just not enough. Any tips, remedies, or medications that have worked for you, would be greatly appreciated.

I use syn-flunisolide-0.25% 2 puffs twice daily in each nostril and find it helps best at bedtime=you have to see your Dr to get it though=good luck
Poor you. You must be getting sleep-deprived as well.
It sounds like you have allergies.
First of all find out what you are allergic to so you can see if you can change something in your environment to help you out. eg. dust allergy – clean, hayfever – close windows.
The trick is to treat your sinuses before they get clogged. If you’re using flonase, then use it regularly to prevent the sinus problem.
Flonase and claritin together work best for me during hayfever season. Too bad they’re so expensive!
Buy a Niti Cup ( i pretty sure thats what its called) it looks like a mini teapot but the spout can fi in your nose. Mix warm water with salt but not hot or too salty. Then lean over a sink and tilt your head sideways. Place the spout into the above nostrol then pour the liquid into your nose, it should come out the other nostrol. Repeat with other nostrol. If you feel like your drowning stop and lightly blow the water out of your nose, then try again while taking short full breaths through your mouth. Afterwards blow your nose.
This method i saw on Oprah. It works by cleaning out the mucus in the nostrol passages and in the sinus areas.
Good Luck!
There’s this prescription nasal spray called Nasonex that helped my sinus problem tremendously.
Thing is, I had the same problem and had sleep apnea and it’s due to my deviated septum and excess turbinate. I’ve had surgery to correct the problem and I can finally breathe normally. You might want to consider that cos it really improves your quality of sleep and life a lot. My doctor straightened my nasal septum and trimmed off excess turbinate and my sinus problem’s gone.
Sleep apnea’s really not good in the long run. The surgery’s relatively painless and you’ll be able to get back to work in about 10 days and full recovery takes anything between 6 to 8 weeks. It’s worth it.
