Did you know that Sleep Apnea is a serious and deadly disease which affects many Americans who aren’t even aware of it? The symptoms include snoring, daytime drowsiness/sleepiness, cessation of breathing during sleep, night sweats, morning headaches, loss of concentration and many others. I have lost two friends in the past two years to Sleep Apnea. Both were diagnosed and refused to use their CPAP machines. I was diagnosed in 2000 and use a CPAP every time I sleep.

My son is 3 years old and we just had has sleep study and it came back positive that he has obstructive sleep apnea. He is getting his tonsils and adnoids out next month. I have had mine out, but I was 15. Does anybody have any good suggestions to preparing for the surgery and post care? He is really young, does anyone know of any kids his age who has went through this?

Is there a natural/cheaper way to deal with this besides surgery? Some herbs or tea or something? Thank you.
So she can stop using the mask after surgery right?

I just woke up with a dry nose and dry throat. I could hardly breath through my nose and my throat felt tight. My heart was pumping. I was having a nightmare too.
I went for a sleep study test for sleep apnea. They said if I lost around 10 pounds it would help. They did not prescribe the sleep apnea device. However, another doctor said they did not do the entire test.
I have to be honest. I don’t’ know what I will do when I have colds and my nose is stuffed up. I feel my throat tightens sometimes. I also feel my bottom jaw is too small. I have to push it forward to breath correctly.

My doctor said to use it when I have an “episode”, for instance when I wake up like I’m choking, coughing, and can’t breathe. If I can’t breathe, how am I going to use the inhaler at that point? and 2nd… FYI: He ruled out Sleep Apnea as a diagnosis, what are your thoughts on a second opinion, too, if you will??

My 8 year old son stops breathing on and off all through the night and he snores loudly. He gasps for air through out the night and wets to bed. He is also on medication for ADHD. I have heard there is a link between sleep apnea and ADHD symptoms. Does anyone else know anything about this?

My husband and i are pretty sure that our one year old has obstructive sleep apnea, she fits all of the symptoms and other people have suspected it since she was born. We made an appointment for the doctor but its not until Thursday so I was wondering if anyone knew what I could do to help her breathe while she’s asleep until we do get to talk to the doctor? thanks <3
yes she does snore and when she’s awake its not rare for her to have a runny nose and appear to be congested… we havent had anything checked out yet
when she does quit breathing its for about 5+ seconds at a time then she gasps/chokes for air and this happens more than 10 times an hour, she hardly ever attempts to breathe out of her nose when shes asleep..

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea a couple years ago. I was doing well on the CPAP machine in the beginning, but lately it seems like its not putting out air as powerfully as it did in the beginning. Although I told my doctor that I believe the problem is the machine, he says that I still need to be “retested” since its been a while since I was diagnosed. I have a new insurance, well, a Health Savings Account with a $2,500 deductible awaiting. Retesting will cost a minimum of a few thousand dollars. I wanted to try to purchase the machine myself online, but you need a prescription to purchase one. Is there a way around this? Also, I once heard someone mention they were using a CPAP machine but were unable to get use to wearing it at night. Instead, they were fitting with some type of “dental device” that they insert during the night to keep their airway open. They said they haven’t used their CPAP machine since. Has anyone ever heard of such a device? Do you know what the name of it is?

I am not 100% sure if I have sleep apnea or not. If I do, it is most likely obstructive sleep apnea. In the past two years, I have woken up in the middle of the night gasping for air. This has happened two times. I do not snore or drink, and I am not overweight. For the past few months, I have been having daytime fatigue every single day, even though I am getting enough sleep. I heard that sleeping on your back just makes it worse because the muscles in the back of the throat collapse, making it harder to breathe. Before I started getting sleepy during the daytime, I always slept on my side and never was tired when I was awake. But ever since I started sleeping on my back, I have been tired every day. Does this mean I have sleep apnea? Also, I have been trying to get back into the habit of sleeping on my side, but I can never fall asleep. I have tried this dozens of times. Is there anything I can do?
