Question by admaster_99: Can sleep apnea cause digestive problems?
I was just wondering if sleep apnea could cause digestive problems and if anybody has had experience. The symptoms I mean are diarrhea, abdominal pain, and bloating mainly. I have a good possibility that I have sleep apnea and I was wondering if maybe these other symptoms could be from it. I always assumed it was the other way around the digestive symptoms causing me to be so tired.

Sleep apnea causes the respiratory tract to contract as a result of this, the flow of air to one’s lungs can get reduced significantly consequently decreasing the oxygen level in the blood to a large extent. It prompts a individual’s brain to respire again. The person, in his sleep struggles for breath which results in jump-starting the inhalation process awaiting the next breathing arrest to occur. Commonly there are three varieties of apnea:

The CPAP machine is one of the most common ways doctors will apply for the sleep apnea treatment. But many people who suffer from this condition refuse to use this device and their snoring problem will not go away because they can’t tackle the sleep apnea that is causing it. People who refuse its use will allege several different reasons but probably the most common one is the discomfort they cause as well as the ongoing sleep studies that this sleep apnea treatment involves.

What types of health problems are needed to qualify to have gastric bypass surgery? Do you only qualify if you have severe health problems caused by this or could you qualify if you have smaller health problems like knee arthritis & breathing problems? Most of my family is obese and have heart disease, sleep apnea. Would they take that into consideration? My sister had gastric bypass surgery with a starting weight at 208 and is down to 128. I don’t think she had any medical problems due to her obesity.

Has anyone experienced similar problems? How does one overcome this problem? (I have also been diagnosed with a deviated septum, but elected not to have surgery.) Would having the surgery help?
