I am 39 years old and very obese and have diabetes, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, and high triglycerides. My doctor at the VA Hospital wants them to give me gastric bypass surgery but they no longer do it at the VA Hospital. Is there any VA Hospitals that perform gastric bypass surgeries (regular one) or how much money do you need to have it done on your own? Please help me. Thank You.

My granddaughter has been on an apnea monitor since 4 months of age. Her most recent sleep study indicates Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea. In otherwords, they say her tonsils are too big and need to be removed.

I am curious if other children who have had this surgery had any difficulties with the surgery and/or recovery because of their age?

What types of health problems are needed to qualify to have gastric bypass surgery? Do you only qualify if you have severe health problems caused by this or could you qualify if you have smaller health problems like knee arthritis & breathing problems? Most of my family is obese and have heart disease, sleep apnea. Would they take that into consideration? My sister had gastric bypass surgery with a starting weight at 208 and is down to 128. I don’t think she had any medical problems due to her obesity.

I had surgery on my right shoulder 5 weeks ago today 9/23/10 it was for bone spurs the dr took off part of my collar bone and did a decompression I can’t seem to get a nights sleep where I wake rested. I have no pain at least that I feel. Could my brain be aware of the pain but I’m not?
I’m really starting to feel sleep deprived some days worse than others. I also have sleep apnea and wear a cpap. I took a ambien last night and seem to help. but still didn’t wake all that rested . I know naps will disrupted sleep. so I avoid them besides I try to nap but I can’t fall asleep

Can you develop sporadic fatal insomnia from surgery?

My brother has a deviated septum and is also having his uvula (sp) removed. I think it has something to do with sleep apnea.

If you had the surgery, did you recover quickly, any problems?

the child (4.5 yrs) suffered from sleep apnea as a result of the enlarged adenoid and his social development (esp. peer relationships) seemed to be delayed. his adenoid and tonsils were removed in a surgery so the sleep apnea seems to have been corrected. when can we expect that he catch up in his social development?

My son has obstructive sleep apnea and needs open-heart surgery to help get rid of the pressure in his lungs, I have heard that having a breathing tube in for the amount of time that the surgery is will cause complications when trying to remove it after…. is this information valid??

My orthodontist and dentist feel that I need to get Othorgonathic surgery to fix my underbite. They want me to to get surgery to my upper and lower jaws. To be honest I agree with them. I cant close my mouth comfortably along with the fact that I grind my teeth at night and I am already developing minor TMJ issues. However it says this in the exlusions & limitations section of my benefits information

Has anyone else run into this problem? Were you able to successfully appeal? if so how? By the way I’m over 19.

Traveling outside the country is not an option for me. For the surgery. Travel outside the US is ver cost prohibitive for me.
